AUSTIN, Texas (June 15, 2023) – Today, The Texas Smoke, Austin’s newest professional women’s sports team, plays the opening game of their inaugural season. Today’s game, which Austinites will be enjoying at Concordia University, will have the team sporting uniforms and gear from EvoShield, the leading sports protective brand that is a part of the Wilson Sporting Goods Portfolio of Brands.
Texas Smoke co-owner Brandon Phillips is an MLB All-Star and World Series Champ with a nearly 25-year relationship with Wilson. And when it came time for Phillips to transition from player to owner, he called back his friends at Wilson.
“Brandon used a Wilson glove for his entire career and was one of the first players to make a statement with his glove. He would visit our office and custom design his gloves for the season with our team,” says Jennette Rauch, Senior Global Marketing Director for Wilson Baseball & Softball. “He brought that same level of detail to the uniforms, gear and apparel for the Texas Smoke players.”
The uniforms, which are made in the USA, are fully-customized with a sublimated twill design. Rather than having the name and numbers printed flat on the uniform, the multi-color color is sublimation and printed before being sewn onto the jerseys. This level of detail and design gives them the same look and feel as any Major League Baseball team uniform.
“Our pros deserve the best in uniforms and protective gear,” says Brandon Phillips, owner of the Texas Smoke and World Series Champion. “Wilson took care of me during my career, and so I knew I had to work with them again to take care of my players and execute my vision.”
The Smoke also will be decked out in EvoShield protective gear including elbow guards, leg guards and catcher’s gear. Evoshield’s Gel-to-Shell Technology creates a custom fit that will keep the players safe while defending the 512.
