Shelbi Sunseri

Sunseri is a former LSU pitcher and utility player, and was previously a member of the Smash-It Sports Vipers in the Women’s Professional Fastpitch (WPF) league before being drafted to the Smoke during WPF’s first-ever expansion draft.

In her final season at LSU in 2022, she posted an 8-7 overall record in the circle with a 3.23 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 102 innings. At the plate, Sunseri batted .267, was second on the team with 15 home runs and third on the team with 41 RBI.

During her career, she was named to the NFCA All-Region team three times, earning All-American honors in 2019. Sunseri was also named to the All-Louisiana Team twice, the All-SEC team once and was a member of the All-SEC Defensive team once.

Sunseri posted a 39-24 winning career record with 263 strikeouts in 414.2 innings, and a 2.41 ERA. At the plate, she finished her career with a .285 batting average, 48 home runs, 37 doubles, and 159 RBIs.

In 2022, she was named assistant softball coach for McNeese State University where she is currently serving as the Cowgirls pitching coach.

Sunseri’s additional accolades include NFCA South All-Region First Team; LSWA All-Louisiana First Team; SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll (2022); Female Brad Davis SEC Community Service Award; NFCA South All-Region Team; SEC All-Defensive Team; LSWA Second Team All-Louisiana; SEC Academic Honor Roll (2021-22); Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll; Medallion Award (2020); NFCA Second Team All-American; NFCA South All-Region First Team; All-SEC Second Team (2019); and SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll (2018).
